Court Orders Remand of NSCDC Officer Over Forgery Allegations

A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo, Abuja, has ordered the remand of a Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) officer, Mr. Jubrin Buba, in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Kuje. The order was made after Buba failed to appear for trial in connection with forgery allegations leveled against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Buba is accused of presenting a forged Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree certificate in Public Administration, allegedly issued by the University of Jos, to secure employment with the NSCDC in February 2015. The ICPC claims that the use of the forged document as genuine contravenes Section 366 of the Penal Code and is punishable under Section 364.

Buba was initially arraigned in 2022 and admitted to bail on liberal terms. However, following the reassignment of the case to a new judge, Buba reportedly failed to appear for trial despite receiving due notice. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was eventually apprehended and arraigned on June 26, 2025. During the proceedings, the court revoked Buba's earlier bail and ordered his remand at the Nigeria Correctional Service facility in Kuje.

The matter has been adjourned to October 27 and 28, 2025, for hearing. The court's decision to remand Buba in custody highlights the seriousness of the allegations and the need for him to face trial.

The case highlights the importance of verifying the authenticity of documents presented by individuals seeking employment in the public service. It also underscores the need for accountability and transparency in the hiring process.

In conclusion, the court's order to remand Buba in custody is a significant development in the case. The outcome of the trial will determine whether the allegations against him are substantiated, and if so, the appropriate consequences will follow.
