Gunfire Exchange Between Police and Kidnappers Leaves Six Suspects Dead in Delta State

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the killing of six kidnap suspects in a shootout with police operatives. The incident occurred during a raid on the suspects' hideout near Unenurhei Community on the Ughelli-Patani Expressway. According to the police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) was on a sting operation when they stormed the criminal hideout.

The suspects, who were heavily armed, engaged the police team in a fierce gun duel, resulting in their sustaining gunshot injuries. Six of the suspects were confirmed dead at the hospital, while two others are still receiving treatment for their injuries. The police recovered four locally-made guns and 19 rounds of live cartridges from the suspects.

Abduction for ransom has become a major crime concern in many Nigerian cities, including Delta State. The police have been working to address this issue, and the recent operation is a testament to their efforts. In a related development, the police recently arrested five suspected kidnappers and recovered N5 million, believed to be money paid as ransom to them. This arrest came less than two weeks after the police arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate terrorizing Ughelli, Warri, Agbarho, and Sapele areas of the state.

The police command has been intensifying its efforts to tackle kidnapping and other crimes in the state. The arrest of suspected kidnappers and the recovery of ransom money demonstrate the police's commitment to combating these crimes. The police have also identified the suspects in a recent arrest as Idris Yakubu, 21, from Kwara State; Bello Amodu, 40, from Sokoto State, and Umar Mohammed, 38, from Kebbi State. These suspects were part of an interstate kidnap syndicate operating in the South-south and South-east states of Delta, Rivers, Enugu, and Imo.

The Delta State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of citizens in the state. The recent operation is a demonstration of the police's determination to tackle kidnapping and other crimes in the state. The police will continue to work tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice and provide a safe and secure environment for citizens to live and work.
