Jigawa State Government Partners with Qatar Charity to Empower Citizens
The Jigawa State Government has partnered with Qatar Charity to empower citizens with livelihood tools, marking a significant step towards poverty eradication and economic development in the state. The partnership was sealed with the official handover of livelihood support equipment to 60 beneficiaries at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Dutse.
The equipment handed over includes:
- 20 Units of Passenger Tricycles (Keke NAPEP)*: to support transportation and mobility
- 20 Cargo Tricycles*: for cargo transportation and logistics
- 20 Multipurpose Grinding Machines*: for food processing and entrepreneurship
These machines are designed for durability and high utility, aiming to enhance the beneficiaries' economic prospects.
Additionally, 100 prepositioned tents were handed over to Jigawa State's Emergency Management Agency to bolster disaster response capabilities, particularly during flood emergencies.
This partnership is part of the ongoing collaboration between the Jigawa State Government and Qatar Charity, which has previously led to the construction of an Islamic Multi-Service Centre in Babbar Riga village. The centre features residential housing units, a modern school, and a mosque, creating a mini-community to foster education, spirituality, and social cohesion .
Governor Umar Namadi expressed gratitude to Qatar Charity and the Qatari government for their continued support, highlighting the alignment of their interventions with the state's commitment to accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 to 6. These goals focus on poverty eradication, food security, healthcare, education, empowerment, and sustainable access to safe drinking water and sanitation services.
As a token of appreciation for the partnership, the State Executive Council has approved the naming of :
- *"Qatar Street"*: linking Sani Abacha Way to Ibrahim Aliyu Bypass
- *"Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani Street"*: from Yalwawa Junction to FUD Madobi Road
- "H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani Mega Tsangaya School": in Dutse
The Jigawa State Government has reiterated its commitment to pursuing broader economic cooperation with Qatar, including revisiting collaborative plans with NIRSAL and the Qatar-Nigeria Business Council to boost investment, education, youth development, and research initiatives.
Each beneficiary will receive an additional N50,000 grant to support business start-up costs. The beneficiaries will also sign formal agreements to ensure proper use and monitoring of the equipment, overseen by Qatar Charity in collaboration with the Jigawa State Youth Empowerment and Employment Agency.
