NSCDC Declares War on Illegal Mining Operators, Deploys Mining Marshals Across 7 Zones

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken a bold step in its efforts to combat illegal mining activities in the country. Under the leadership of Commandant General Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the NSCDC has decentralized mining enforcement operations and deployed specially trained Mining Marshals across seven operational zones nationwide.

To support the field activities of the Mining Marshals, the NSCDC has commissioned ten operational vehicles. These vehicles are built for rugged terrain and rapid deployment, and will aid surveillance, intelligence-led patrols, and tactical enforcement against illegal mining activities.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Commandant General Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi described the decentralization of mining enforcement operations as a bold operational reform aimed at bringing enforcement closer to identified mining hotspots and empowering regional response teams for greater effectiveness. He stated that the deployment of Mining Marshals to all seven zones will scale up the Corps' capacity to confront illegal mining operations head-on.

The initiative aligns with the Federal Government's economic diversification agenda and supports the NSCDC's statutory mandate to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure. The Corps aims to promote lawful mining practices, preserve the environment, and combat the illegal exploitation of the nation's mineral resources.

The NSCDC calls on all stakeholders in the mining sector, including host communities, licensed operators, and regulatory agencies, to cooperate fully with the Mining Marshals in their respective zones and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest NSCDC office.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps remains unwavering in its commitment to enforcing the law and protecting the nation's mineral resources. The deployment of Mining Marshals and the commissioning of operational vehicles demonstrate the Corps' determination to tackle illegal mining activities head-on.

The NSCDC's efforts are expected to have a positive impact on the mining sector, promoting lawful mining practices and preventing the exploitation of the nation's mineral resources. The initiative will also help to ensure that the benefits of mining are shared equitably among stakeholders, including host communities.

The NSCDC's deployment of Mining Marshals and commissioning of operational vehicles is a significant step in the fight against illegal mining activities in Nigeria. The initiative demonstrates the Corps' commitment to enforcing the law and protecting the nation's mineral resources. With the support of stakeholders, the NSCDC is poised to make a positive impact on the mining sector and promote economic development in the country.
