"Operation Rainbow Warns Tricycle Riders: Compliance is Key to Urban Security"
The coordinator of the Plateau State security outfit, Operation Rainbow, Rtd. Gen. G. G. Shipi, has issued a strong compliance warning to all commercial tricycle operators in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis. The warning is part of efforts to tighten urban security and streamline the operations of tricycle riders.
Shipi emphasized the growing security concerns linked to the informal transport sector, especially with bikes and tricycles. He lauded recent technological interventions introduced by the Integrated Tricycle Transport Management System (ITTMS) and GIOPAT DC. Limited, which is currently spearheading a biometric registration and digital identification initiative for commercial transport operators in the state.
The new system includes the use of QR codes on tricycles, allowing both commuters and security agents to verify the identity of operators. Shipi expressed satisfaction with the system, noting that it will help reduce crime, improve safety, and prevent extortion of riders.
The coordinator called on all tricycle operators to comply with the new system, assuring them that the goal is to protect both riders and commuters while ensuring government regulations are upheld. Those who refuse to comply will face consequences, including legal sanctions and the possibility of being banned from operating within the state.
The Plateau State Chief Laiser of ITTMS and GIOPAT DC. Limited, Salisu Muhammad Abdulsalam, explained that the program was initiated to ensure that every tricycle operator is identifiable and to enhance the safety of commuters. The initiative will also help the state track payments and block financial leakages.
The biometric registration and digital identification of commercial tricycle and bike riders is a significant step toward securing urban transportation and improving revenue transparency. The Plateau State Government encourages residents to remain vigilant and urges citizens to report suspicious activities or seek immediate help by calling the Plateau State Security Information Centre.
The success of this initiative will depend on the cooperation of tricycle operators and the public. With the implementation of the new system, Plateau State can expect improved security, reduced crime, and increased revenue transparency. The government should continue to work with security agencies and stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of the initiative.
