Police Arrest Gun Runners, Recover Arms and Ammunition in Benue

The Police have arrested additional gun runners and recovered arms and ammunition in connection with the recent killings in Benue State. The operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) have been working to dismantle the arms supply syndicate responsible for arming bandits in Benue and other North-Central States.


According to the police, on June 21, 2025, operatives stormed the hideout of bandits in a forest at the boundary of Kardako, Nassarawa State, and Yelwata in Benue State, and recovered 2 GPMG. On July 8, 2025, operatives arrested a suspect, Abubakar Isah, with 3 AK47 rifles and 1002 rounds of live ammunition.

Further investigations revealed that the arms and ammunition were supplied by a notorious arms dealer, Jacob Adikwu, operating from Abinsi, Guma Local Government area of Benue State. The police also arrested another suspect, Ibrahim AKA Chelsea, who confessed to sending ₦6,500,000 to Adikwu for the purchase of arms.

On July 16, 2025, operatives apprehended Jacob Adikwu and recovered 3 AK-47 rifles, 220 rounds of live ammunition, and a Volkswagen car from his hideout. Additional arms and ammunition were recovered on July 17, 2025, including 5 AK-47 rifles, one rocket launcher, and 1000 rounds of live ammunition.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their efforts and reiterated that there will be no hiding place for those who profit from the bloodshed of innocent Nigerians. The police are working to bring the perpetrators to justice and maintain peace in the affected areas.

The police recovered a total of:

- 2 GPMG

- 12 AK47 rifles

- 2222 rounds of live ammunition

- 1 rocket launcher

- 1 Volkswagen car

The police are intensifying efforts to apprehend Dan Hassan and other criminal elements responsible for terrorizing Benue State and other parts of the country.
