11-Year-Old Girl Arrested with Drugs in Warri

An 11-year-old girl named Rejoice was arrested by police operatives from the Ekpan Division in Warri, Delta State, for possession of controlled substances worth N100,000. The girl confessed that her mother, Esther Ugbunugo, sent her to buy the drugs, which included codeine, tramadol, and "swinnol".

Rejoice stated that she was arrested while on her way home in a commercial tricycle, also known as a Keke, with the drugs in a black polythene bag. She denied allegations that the drugs were found in the Keke she boarded, insisting she brought them herself.

Rejoice's mother, Esther Ugbunugo, 45, admitted to sending her daughter to buy the drugs and selling them to "Yahoo boys". She also confessed to using tramadol occasionally to help her sleep. Ugbunugo claimed to have been involved in the drug trade for almost two years.

The police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, expressed concern over the case, highlighting the troubling fact that an 11-year-old girl could identify drugs by name without reading from the packs. Edafe emphasized the need to hear both sides of the story, which is why Rejoice and her mother were brought to the police headquarters .

The case raises serious concerns about child welfare and the involvement of minors in drug trafficking. The police are likely to investigate further to determine the extent of the mother's involvement in the drug trade and ensure the child's safety.
