Aiyedatiwa’s Administration to Restore Glory of Idanre Hills – Afolabi

The Ondo State Government has initiated a renewed push to revitalize the state's tourism assets, with a focus on restoring the iconic Idanre Hills to its former glory. The Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Afolabi Adesoji, has vowed that the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa will bring back the lost glory of the historic hilltop town.

During an oversight tour to Oke Idanre, Afolabi led a high-powered delegation to assess the current state of the facility and explore its untapped potentials. The team climbed the famed 682 steps that lead to the ancient settlement, inspecting several historical monuments, including the old palace, dilapidated residential quarters, the ancient court hall, and other sacred sites.

Afolabi emphasized that the restoration of the Idanre Hills is not just about tourism but also about pride, history, culture, and economic growth. He disclosed that the Ministry is working towards enlisting "World Oke Idanre Day" with UNESCO to give the annual celebration international recognition and further spotlight the unique heritage of the Idanre people on the global stage.

The Commissioner also visited the Ondo State Golf Course, located in Atosin-Idanre, which has been left in a moribund state. He emphasized that with the right attention and investment, the golf course could be revived into a premium sports and leisure destination, attracting local and international golf enthusiasts and boosting the state's hospitality and tourism economy.

Afolabi's commitment to restoring the Idanre Hills and reviving the golf course demonstrates the administration's determination to develop the state's tourism sector and promote economic growth. The initiative is expected to create jobs, generate revenue, and showcase Ondo State's rich cultural heritage to the world.

The restoration of the Idanre Hills will not only benefit the local community but also contribute to the state's economic development. The project is a testament to the administration's commitment to preserving the state's cultural heritage and promoting tourism development.

With the proposed UNESCO recognition of "World Oke Idanre Day," the Idanre Hills are poised to become a major tourist destination, attracting visitors from around the world. The Ondo State Government's efforts to restore the site's former glory will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the state's economy and cultural landscape.
