LATEST NEWS: BAYELSA GOVERNMENT REACTS TO SUSPENSION OF IKBIRI MONARCH

The Bayelsa State Government has taken note of the purported suspension of His Royal Highness, Francis Timi Ododo Amananaowei, the monarch of Ikibiri Kingdom in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. The government has made it clear that the suspension is not recognized under the Bayelsa State Chieftaincy Law, which stipulates that no individual or group of individuals has the authority to suspend a classified Chief.

According to the government, the law is clear on the procedure for suspending or removing a traditional ruler, and any deviation from this procedure is considered null and void. Therefore, His Royal Highness, Francis Timi Ododo remains the Amananaowei of Ikibiri Kingdom.

In a bid to resolve the issue and maintain peace and order in the kingdom, the government has invited the Traditional Ruler and parties involved in his purported suspension to a meeting with the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. The meeting will provide a platform for both parties to ventilate their grievances and work towards a peaceful resolution.

The meeting details are as follows:

- Date: Monday, July 28th, 2025

- Time: 12 noon

- Venue: Conference Hall of the Deputy Governor, Government House, Yenagoa

The government is committed to upholding the law and protecting the rights of all citizens, including traditional rulers. The government urges all parties involved to approach the meeting with an open mind and a willingness to resolve the issue amicably.

The government also calls on the good people of Ikibiri Kingdom and Bayelsa State in general to remain calm and peaceful as efforts are being made to resolve the issue. The government assures the public that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure that peace and order are maintained in the kingdom.
