Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority Achieves Success in Ensuring Compliance with Regulations

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has achieved significant success in ensuring compliance with regulations in the state. The Authority's Chairperson, Justice Aderonke Aderemi (rtd), disclosed this during the Omitutun 2.0 Inter-Ministerial Briefing.


According to Justice Aderemi, OYRLEA has addressed thousands of cases related to road traffic management and environmental protection, and has also curbed open grazing in many instances. The Authority has set up tribunals to prosecute offenders and has tried over 6,000 traffic offenses and 3,000 environmental offenses since its inception.

The OYRLEA Chairperson emphasized that the Authority deals with simple crimes and offenses, such as enforcing rules to achieve a clean, safe, and orderly environment. She clarified that the Authority does not take over the statutory functions of the High Court and the Ministry of Justice.

Justice Aderemi highlighted some of the successes of OYRLEA, including curbing open grazing, farmers-herders clashes, and the elimination of shanties around public schools. She also noted that the Authority has collaborated with different MDAs and organizations, including OYMASED, Amotekun Corps, and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

The OYRLEA Chairperson emphasized the importance of collaboration with other agencies and organizations in achieving success in ensuring compliance with regulations. She also stressed the need for strict compliance with the rules, including fundamental human rights and rights to fair hearing.

The Authority has also taken steps to sensitize members of the public on its activities, including featuring on media programs and meeting with local government chairmen. Justice Aderemi warned that individuals who rebuild shanties around public schools would be dealt with if apprehended.

The OYRLEA's achievements demonstrate the state government's commitment to ensuring a safe and orderly environment for residents. The Authority's efforts have helped to promote peace and stability in the state, and its collaboration with other agencies and organizations has been instrumental in achieving this goal.
